Alberto Guidobaldi was born in 1967 in Italy, but has resided in Puerto Rico since 1993. His musical studies began in the "Scuola di Musica Arturo Toscanini" in Savona, Italy, where he studied piano and accordion. In June 2006, he graduated 'Summa cum Laude'at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico (CMPR) completing a Degree in Music with an emphasis in composition under the guidance of Professors Armando Ramirez, Alfonso Fuentes, Sonia Morales and the late professor Roberto Milano.
Guidobaldi's 'Concertino for 2 Oboes and Piano' was composed in 2016. Although no particular Latin American rhythms are used in the composition, the Latin style was certainly a strong influence. There are three movements: fast-slow-fast, with a total duration of approximately 9 minutes. An alternate part is included, in the piano reduction only, where the second oboe may be replaced with clarinet in A, if desired.
The Concertino was commissioned and premiered at the 2016 International Double Reed Society Annual Conference in Columbus, GA, by Dr. Frances Colon Jimenez, former Oboe principal of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, and Professor of Oboe at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico since 2007, and Dr. Nermis Mieses, Assistant Professor of Oboe at Bowling Green State University in Ohio and principal oboe of the Michigan Opera Theatre in Detroit.
