Meditation and Exultation was commissioned and premiered by Alicia Cordoba Tait for the International Double Reed Society conference held in July 2012 at Miami University, Oxford, OH. Alicia is not only a fine performer of the oboe family but is also a devoted Marian scholar.  "Meditation" is inspired by the feelings of awe, fear and elation experienced by the Blessed Virgin Mary at the news brought by the angel Gabriel that she will conceive and bear the Son of God.  "Exultation" portrays the five joyful mysteries (The Annunciation, The Visitation, The Nativity, The Presentation and The Finding in the Temple) contemplated when praying the Holy Rosary.
