Zaimont: Astral for solo alto saxophone

This work was written in 2004. Originally for solo clarinet, this adaption was done for alto saxophone with the assistance of Eugene Rousseau. Since the music includes extensive use of the altissimo range, special fingerings for these notes have been suggested by Dr. Rousseau. Starting slowly and lyrical, the instrumentalist's registers are explored one by one during the music's development, ultimately covering a range of three-and-one half octaves. Lovely lyrical and moody writing contrasts with a technical "dance." Duration: approximately 9 minutes.
