This one-movement work is scored for piccolo, flute, alto flute, and bass flute (or English horn). The composer, Robert Stephenson, writes, "Within the woodwind family, there exists another family. For the flute, its siblings in part include the piccolo, alto flute and bass flute. In an orchestral setting, these gatherings are rare. A Day at the Festival is a showcase and opportunity for the flute family. It features singing voices, original harmonies, four distinct colors and collective virtuosity. The music-making calls for a unique section in 8/8. After all, aren’t all families unique?"
An English horn part is included in this set, as an alternative for the bass flute, if needed. Total duration approximately 3.5 minutes. The set includes a full score plus parts.
