Simpson: Exhortation II for Oboe Solo

This 13.5 minute solo, composed in 1997, is a set of four variations which exploit the many diverse aspects of the instrument. Although the movements are called "variations," they are not traditional variations in the sense of varying a pre-existing theme or harmonic progression; rather, they display a different feature of the oboe in each variation, and present a specific technical challenge in each.
