Over the years, Eugene Rousseau has gained friends
wherever he has gone. This latest recording offers five
performances by the internationally famous saxophonist
with friends and colleagues in Budapest, Minneapolis,
and Prague. The works range from chamber music with
strings and with winds to compositions with chamber
orchestra and string orchestra. Two of the performances
have the ambience and excitement possible only during a
concert. Each of the performances demonstrates the
artistry and consummate musicianship listeners have come
to expect of Rousseau. Joining Rousseau are The Budapest
Strings Chamber Orchestra, The Prazak String Quartet,
Anna Marie Wytko (saxophone), Valarie Anderson (oboe),
John Anderson (clarinet), Charles Ullery (bassoon), and
Craig Kirchhoff conducting a chamber ensemble at the
University of Minnesota.
Compositions on the CD include:
- Johann Sebastian Bach: Air from Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D Major [saxophone, string ensemble]
- Jindrich Feld: Quintet [saxophone, string quartet]
- Paul Hindemith: Kontzertstuck [2 saxophones]
- Pierre-Max Dubois: Les Trois Mousquetaires [oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone]
