In the early twentieth century Gabriel Pares (1860-1934)
authored "Daily Exercises and Scales" for the clarinet.
The volume contains major scales in a variety of
articulated patterns in keys up to four sharps and four
flats. It is available today for many woodwind,
brass and string instruments.
The current volumes by Dr. Ona Pinsonneault are intended
to extend these scale studies into the minor keys, both
harmonic and melodic forms, to provide articulation and
reading studies for the chromatic scale, to view the
whole tone scale, pentatonic scale, diminished or
octatonic scale, to include the major scales from the
Pares volume and to complete the study of major scales
in five to seven sharp and flat keys.
Volume 1 includes major and minor keys to 4 flats and 3
sharps. Volume 2 presents the remainder of keys to 7
sharps and flats, as well as exercises for the
chromatic, whole tone, pentatonic, and diminished
scales. The two volumes provide a strong foundation for
common technical demands on clarinet.
