This Sonata was originally composed for piano between the years 1750-55. Although attributed to Franz Joseph Haydn, some scholars have questioned that Haydn was actually the composer. The music is well adapted for oboe and piano by Christian Tuns and fills a gap in the oboe repertoire from this period.
Haydn's Sonata in C Major has 3 short movements with a total duration of approximately 6 minutes (without repeats in movements 1-2).
A video performance of the complete C major sonata, featuring Christian Tuns on oboe, is available on YouTube.
Christian Tuns has also arranged Haydn's Keyboard Sonata in G Major for oboe and piano (JP1112).
