Originally composed for a quartet of flute, oboe,
cello, and harp, Danses Ravissants was arranged in
2007 for flute with an optional piccolo part, oboe,
viola, and harp at the request of the Cleveland, Ohio
chamber group Panoramicos. The spicy, witty
impertinence of the oboe and the haunting lyricism of
the viola, when added to the luster and agility of the
flute, the piquancy of the piccolo, and the startling
explosive zing of the harp, provide a sonorous palette
any artist would envy. These colors have been used to
create a set of images of dances. While not being
dances in the traditional sense, this music will
ideally invigorate and cheer its audiences, making them
feel like leaping about the room with wild abandon
rather than sitting with hands complacently folded.
