Eugene Bourdeau (1850-1926) came from a family of bassoonists who all won First Prize at the Paris Conservatory, with Eugene winning his prize in 1868. He served as principal bassoonist with the Opera Comique and, from 1891 until 1922, taught at the Paris Conservatory. He composed masses and motets as well as works for bassoon. His Premiere Solo for bassoon and piano was used in the concours of 1894 and 1921.
