Louis-Jean-Baptiste Bas (1863-1944) played pricipal oboe in
the Paris Opera and the Societe des concert. He was
a student of Georges Gillet and, as a student, won first
prize at the Paris Conservatory. Saint-Saens dedicated his
Sonata for Oboe to Bas. This publication of seventeen
1-2 page duets
for oboe and English horn and one 2-page trio for 2 oboes and
English horn has been edited by Valarie Anderson. It was
originally part of Bas' Complete Method for Oboe,
first published in 1905.
