Johann Sebastian Bach’s Double Concerto for Oboe, Violin, and Strings is somewhat of a misnomer in terms of its title; it was in fact originally conceived to feature two harpsichord soloists in the late 1730s. Musicologist Max Scheider specifically reconstructed the Double Concerto for violin, oboe, and orchestra in the early 20th-century, primarily using both the right-hand harpsichord lines to create the solo parts for the violin and oboe. The Jeanné Music Publications editions, edited by Dave Camwell for two saxophones, compensate for some of the saxophone range issues that occur when transcribing a violin part.

There are two separate editions that use either two soprano saxophones or two alto saxophones as the solo instruments. The solo parts remain in the written key of D minor, whether played on soprano or alto saxophone, with the piano part being transposed as needed. Each edition also includes historical and interpretive suggestions by Camwell. The three movements have a total timing of approximately 14.5 minutes.
