Continue ShoppingZheng Long XIANG was born in 1937. From 1952-56, he performed with the Yunnan Province Song and Dance Ensemble.
Starting in 1956, he attended the Sichuan Conservatory, studying clarinet with Mu Xi Qing, one of China’s first
generation western instrument players, and with Qin Xue Zi. From 1962 to 1964, Xiang studied clarinet with Zhang
Ren Fu in Beijing and played with the Central Symphony Orchestra.
After 50 years in clarinet teaching, many of Prof. Xiang’s former clarinet students now hold major positions in
conservatories and orchestras throughout China. He also composed a number of clarinet solo works, clarinet
ensembles, and pedagogical studies. In 2014 he was awarded the Clarinet Lifetime Achievement Award by the
Chinese Musicians Association Clarinet Society. In addition to his position of full time clarinet professor at
Sichuan Conservatory, he formerly was director for the orchestral department, director for foreign affairs
office, and Assistant Music Dean for the Conservatory. He is currently the chairman of the Woodwind and Brass
Winds Association in Sichuan and Honorary President of the Sichuan Clarinet Association.
