Joseph Bodin de Boismortier (1689 -1755) was a popular 18th century French composer, who is known today primarily for his instrumental chamber music. After moving to Paris in 1724, he obtained a royal license for engraving music and began to publish his own works. In the following years he published over a hundred compositions, selling them directly to the public, providing him with substantial wealth. He was one of the first composers to have no patron. The Six Little Suites are taken from Boismortier's opus 27, first published in 1730. The source for this edition, edited by Valarie Anderson is that original publication. Each of the six suites has multiple, short movements. The technique is not advanced but there are numerous trills and mordents. Much of the articulation is left to the performer although Valarie Anderson has included some suggestions.
