Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) created a sensational operatic
rendering of Victorien Sardou's original French melodrama,
"La Tosca" (1887),
which has enthralled audiences the world over since its
premiere at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome on January 14,
1900. Saxophonist Eugene Rousseau has adapted
four of the opera's most beautiful and emotionally
expressive melodic themes for saxophone and orchestra. The
arrangement was recorded by Eugene Rousseau and the
University of North Texas Symphony Orchestra in 2015 (see
link to CD2276 listed in "Related products"). The total duration is
approximately 8.5 minutes
The orchestra accompaniment is scored for
2 flutes, 2 oboes + EH, 2 clarinets + BC, 2 bassoons +
contrabassoon, 4 horns, 3 trumpets, 3 trombones + bass
trombone, timpani, percussion, harp, and strings
(6-6-5-4-3). The set includes parts (including solo
saxophone) and score.
