Leon Delcroix (1880–1938) was a Belgian conductor and
composer. He studied piano with J. Wieniawski and
composition with both Ysaye and d'Indy. He conducted
theatre orchestras in Belgium from 1909-1927, after which
he devoted all of his time to composition. His works
range from theatrical and symphonic works to chamber
ensembles, including several works for string ensembles and
a clarinet quartet. "Lied Elegiaque," opus 20, was
composed during January and February of 1909 for Fernand
Pierard, who was at that time professor at the Royal
Conservatory of Brussels.
