The Gatherer of Lost Children is a five-movement, 27-minute song cycle for soprano, oboe, violoncello, piano, and percussion. Beginning in 2014, the theme of a composition depicting childhood experiences was conceived while reading through various sources of poetry. The completed work uses the poetry of Philip Terman, who can weave wonderful stories, while also commissioning one poem from North Carolina author, Pam Chillemi-Yeager. The movements are as follows:
- 'Bird Love,' where a child discovers the innocence of love. [4:26]
- 'The Secret,' where a child, while playing, discovers a secret that will forever change their life. [3:41]
- 'Melanie,' the true story of a child's enchantment with the fairy realm, and a life cut short too soon. [9:59]
- 'This Seagull,' depicting the energy and freedom of childhood. [2:45]
- 'The Gatherer of Lost Children,' a story within a story, promising protection for all strayed souls. [5:49]
