Robert Kahn (1865-1951) wrote no orchestral music,
concentrating instead on choral and chamber music. His
compositional style strongly favored Romantic harmonies
with the texture and scoring influenced by Brahms. His
Serenade, op. 23 was first published in 1923. Although
originally scored for oboe, horn and piano, alternate
possibilities were also provided including clarinet or
violin in place of the oboe and viola or cello in place
of the horn. This edition (JP5109) includes parts
for oboe (violin), clarinet (in place of oboe), viola
and piano. See JP5058 for horn in place of the
viola. The work is one movement with several different
sections with a total duration of 10.5 minutes. Its
beautiful melodies will be a great addition to your
program.
