Code: JP5018
ISMN: 979-0-3019-0461-9
Collioure is episodic in form, contrasting a somber lyricism with fleeting faster rhythmic sections which are varied at each presentation. The piece was named after a striking black and white photograph of an ancient Basque castle perched dramatically above the Mediterranean seaside village of Collioure. The brooding face of the castle and the jagged rocky cliffside upon which it is perched are conjured up by the characteristic deep sounds of the English horn, cello, and the low range of the piano, whereas the lively bustle of the town below is heard in the more playful, dancing sections. Approximately 10.5 minutes.
