"La Flute de Pan" by Alberto Guidobaldi was written for
Guatemalan soprano, Daniela Yurrita. It was premiered by
Yurrita, with Josean Delgado, alto flute, and Pedro Juan
Jimenez, piano, in May of 2014 at the Conservatory of
Music of Puerto Rico. The poem used in this song is from
Songs of Bilitis (Les Chansons de Bilitis) by
Pierre Louys (1870-1925). Although born in Ghent, Belgium,
Louys spent much of his life in France, studying at the
Ecole Alsacienne in Paris. In 1891, Louys helped found a
literary review, La Conque, where he published his first
poems. Songs of Bilitis, published in 1894, is a
collection of 143 prose poems, all of which discuss the
life of the Greek female character, Bilitis.
Guidobaldi has selected the alto flute to compliment the
soprano voice in this beautiful rendition of one of the
poems from Songs of Bilitis, "La Flute de Pan".
The work is only slightly over 4 minutes in length but
its appeal will be long-lasting.
The set includes an extra piano-score for the vocalist.
