German (Mack): Country Dance from Nell Gwyn arr. for clarinet choir

Sir Edward German (1862-1936) was the music director of the Globe Theater in London where he composed the incidental music for many of the productions and those of other London theaters. The play Nell Gwyn (originally English Nell) for which the Country Dance was written was produced at the Lyceum Theater in 1900 and included elements of traditional English folk music. German later became the successor to Sir Arthur Sullivan with the D'Oyle Carte Opera Company, and was knighted in 1928 after a career as a conductor and composer in many genres, but especially successful in light opera.

This music has been arranged for clarinet choir by James Mack. It is scored for E-flat soprano clarinet, B-flat clarinets 1-3, alto clarinet, bass clarinet, and contrabass clarinet. Alternate (optional) parts for this clarinet choir arrangement have been included for Alto Clarinet (Clarinet 4 or Basset Horn), and E-flat contra-alto clarinet in place of the B-flat contrabass clarinet.
