The 'Holberg Suite' op. 40, more properly 'From
Holberg's Time,' was originally called 'Suite in old
style.' It is a suite of five movements based on
eighteenth century dance forms and was composed in 1884
to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Danish-Norwegian
playwright, Ludwig Holberg. Originally for piano solo,
the work is most popular in its string orchestra version
by the composer. The new arrangement here for oboe,
clarinet and piano was made by Margi Griebling-Haigh
for the ensemble, Fiati. There is both beautiful,
lyrical playing and virtuoso technique required. It is
a great addition to the repertoire for oboe, clarinet
and piano. Total duration: approximately 20 minutes.
