To achieve the highest level of performance, it is necessary to keep your instrument in top-performing condition. This includes periodic cleaning and lubrication of the mechanism, and cleaning of the tone holes and octave vents. Major instrument repairs are best done by a professional in that field, but the ability to do your own routine maintenance will help to ensure that your instrument is in good working condition and will allow you to concentrate on making music.
The Jeanne Maintenance Kit contains the basic tools for the routine maintenance of your instrument. All items come in an attractive, compact canvas case for storage. The kit includes:
- Three precision Wiha screwdrivers especially useful for woodwind instruments (2.5 x 50, 2.0 x 40, 1.5 x 40). These screwdrivers have a tapered ergonomic handle with twisting cap, providing a smooth and rapid rotation.
- Jeanne spring hook - smaller than commercially made spring hooks, the Jeanné spring hook is especially made to reach springs in narrow spaces on oboes and clarinets.
- Brass lined flat nose pliers for bending keys or removing rods. The softer brass jaws help in preventing damage to the instrument’s rods and keys.
- Dixcel camel hair dusting brush - This brush is ideal for cleaning dust from areas around springs, which helps to prevent the springs from rusting.
- Key Oil - A low-viscosity, high film strength formula made by Nye Oil for delicate mechanism, low friction applications. Use to lubricate the mechanism of your instrument. Packaged at Jeanne, Inc. in a convenient .5-ounce bottle with a needle dispenser. This permits you to put a very small amount of oil precisely where needed.
- OCB un-gummed paper to soak up water in tone holes and for use as a ”feeler” gauge to check pad seal.
