This new edition of the Schumann "Fantasy Pieces" or
"Fantasiestucke" for clarinet and piano is one of
the Jeanne Master Class Series. These three pieces
were composed in 1849 and are among the most important
clarinet repertoire of the Romantic period. This edition
includes extensive performance suggestions by
John Anderson. A copy of the original manuscript
and the 1885 Breitkopf edition, edited by Clara
Schumann, have been the main references. There are few
serious technical problems for the clarinetist. The
challenge is to make the music into a "dialogue" between
the clarinet and piano. These pieces are not a "solo
with accompaniment" but pure chamber music between two equal
partners. Solo parts for both clarinet in A and clarinet
in B-flat are included. Total duration approximately
10.5 minutes.
