Marcello's Concerto in C Minor was originally written
for oboe and is one of the most popular works
in the oboe repertoire. It is typical of instrumental
concerti in the Venetian style consisting of three
movements, with a slow expressive aria between two
faster movements, the final one usually in 3/8. It was
probably written between 1708-1712. Although the
clarinet did exist in the early eighteenth century, few
composers were writing for it. This current edition
substituting clarinet in place of the oboe is successful
and like many other Baroque Period works where alternate
instruments were allowed.
This new edition for B-flat clarinet and Piano is one of
the Jeanne Master Class Series. It includes
extensive interpretation suggestions by John Anderson.
