David DeBoor Canfield wrote this work in 2006 in memory of Terri Schiavo, who died in hospice care in 2005 after her feeding tube was removed. The Terri Schiavo case was a legal struggle involving prolonged life support in the United States that lasted from 1990 to 2005.

Canfield attempts to portray the method of her death in the music by turgid and chromatic harmonies, and an agitated middle section. All of this gives way to a peaceful, if somewhat unsettled, section to bring the work to its close.

The one-movement work is approximately 9.5 minutes.
