J.S. Bach wrote chorales throughout his life as part of
his service to the Lutheran church. Bach's chorales are
excellent models of 18th-century counterpoint, and allow
for those performing them to phrase following the clear
harmonic motions contained within.
The 24 chorales presented here were arranged for saxophone
quartet by Dave Camwell. They are intended as music with
which an ensemble can learn to expertly blend, phrase,
tune, and above all, make music. Each chorale is short
and is presented in its basic form. They are scored for
SATB quartet, but an alternate alto saxophone is
included as a substitute for soprano saxophone if needed.
A full score is also included.
