Athanasios Aronis

Athanasios Thomas Peter Aronis (b. May 25, 1935) is a graduate of Indiana University and the University of Pennsylvania. His compositions include four vocal symphonies: 1) “Psalm Symphony” (Psalms 22, 23, 24) for four antiphonal choirs, 2) “Abandoned House” (Susan Fawcett) for Solo Soprano, 3) “The Trojan Women” (Euripides/Gilbert Murray) for Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano and Men’s Chorus, and 4) “Romeo and Juliet” (Shakespeare) for Soprano and Baritone. In the latter three, he attempts to combine symphonic form with opera. His compositions also include various works for solo piano, chamber ensembles, art songs (Blake Cycle, etc.) and choral works. He has had performances in New York, Philadelphia, Washington, and Bloomington. He lived in New York for forty years, working for twelve years as the primary copyist for G. Schirmer and then as a copyist for Peter Miller, Inc, a Broadway production house. In 2002 he moved to Bloomington, Indiana, where he currently resides.
