Simpson: Exhortation II for Soprano Saxophone Solo

This 13.5 minute solo, originally composed for oboe, was adapted for soprano saxophone in 2008. The solo is a set of four variations which exploit the many diverse aspects of the instrument. Although the movements are called "variations," they are not traditional variations in the sense of varying a pre-existing theme or harmonic progression; rather, they display a different feature of the saxophone in each variation, and present a specific technical challenge in each.
